Here are some tips to keep in mind when filing your taxes
1) File Electronically – E-filing is the fastest way to get your tax refund. If you choose to file electronically, it’s important to make sure all of your information is accurate before submitting it. This includes personal information like name, address, Social Security Number, as well as any financial information associated with the return (e.g., income from a job or business).
2) Direct Deposit – Most taxpayers choose direct deposit because it puts their refunds directly into their bank accounts faster than paper checks. Make sure you double-check your banking information before submitting your return so that your refund goes straight into the right account.
3) Avoid Errors – Mistakes can cause delays in processing your return and receiving your refund. Double-check all of your forms before sending them in and make sure that all required forms have been included (including W-2s and 1099s). Also, be sure to report all of the income that should be reported on your return; if an error is found later on, it could result in penalties or even worse—an audit!
4) Check for Refund Status Online - Once you’ve filed your taxes, you can check the status of your refund online using IRS’ Where's My Refund? tool. This will give you an estimated date when you can expect to receive your refund as well as any updates regarding its progress.
